From 1st June 2022, as part of our commitment to ESG we are introducing an IT policy for all Windows devices that will reduce energy consumption.
When there hasn't been any keyboard or mouse activity for a set amount of time, Windows will go into Stand By mode.
If you are using battery power (laptops), it will be 15 minutes of inactivity before it goes into Stand By mode.
If you are connected to power (laptops and desktops), 30 minutes of inactivity will put the device into Stand By mode.
To revive a snoozing laptop or desktop, you can do one of the following option:
- Simply press a key on the keyboard, move and click mouse, and wait a few seconds.
- If it is a laptop you can also tap on the mouse pad. That should wake-up the device up, bringing it back to active duty.
After waking up the laptop or desktop, you will need to log in to Windows again with password or PIN.
If after a number of seconds your laptop doesn't wake up after trying the above, please press the power button once only to wake it up again.
Do not hold the power button down as this will fully shut down your laptop and could cause damage!
If the laptop does not wake up after following the above, it could be that the battery is dead. Check the laptop's power-on lights. If they're off the battery is dead, therefore connect to power.
If after all the steps above have been followed the laptop or desktop does not wake-up, please contact IT Support and we will assist you.
