As we approach the flexible work month of August, it is important to know how to safeguard your remote working environment.

What is a VPN?

A VPN is a service that creates a secure, encrypted connection over a less secure network, such as the public internet. It works by routing your device's internet connection through your chosen VPN's private server rather than your internet service provider (ISP). This process masks your IP address and use advanced encryption protocols to ensure that the data transmitted between your device and the corporate network is secure. This prevents unauthorised access to sensitive company data.

When to use the VPN?

The VPN should be used when you are working remotely or travelling and connecting to an unsecure network.

Essentially, if you are not in the office or connected to the Manolo Blahnik or your own home network- use the VPN.

When you are accessing a Public Wi-Fi, it is imperative you connect to the Cisco Secure Client to protect our data from hackers.  Public networks will include but are not limited to Cafes, Airport and Hotel networks.

Note, you will not be able to join the VPN when you are connected to a Manolo Blahnik network.

It is important that you disconnect from the VPN before shutting down or closing your laptop to avoid a login loop.

The IT & Systems team will monitor VPN usage in line with Information Security policies.

 How Does a VPN Work?

When you connect to a VPN, it creates a VPN tunnel, a virtual point-to-point connection between your device and the VPN server. This tunnel 192encrypts all data that passes through it, ensuring that your information remains private and secure, even when using public networks.

Setting up your VPN:

1. On your application search bar, search "Cisco Secure Client" and launch the application.

2. Enter the following pathway, and click Connect

4. Next you will be prompted to login with your company email address and password.

5.  Once the connection has been established, you will be prompted to accept to work on the VPN.

Disconnecting your VPN:

Once you have finished your work, or plan to close/shut down your laptop please disconnect from the VPN

1. On your application search bar, search "Cisco Secure Client" and launch the application.

2. Select Disconnect.
